Look at the Lids

Eye care professionals (ECPs) have a blind spot when it comes to diagnosing Demodex blepharitis (DB), a common inflammatory eye condition caused by an infestation of Demodex mites at the eyelid. Many do not appreciate the impact that an infestation of mites can have on patient comfort and overall eye health, and look right past the eyelid when performing routine slit lamp eye exams. The Tarsus “Look at the Lids” (LIDS) campaign aimed to change that.

This unbranded campaign, created with real patients, directs ECPs to stop and look at their patients’ eyelids for collarettes (the pathognomonic sign of DB) as the first step in routine eye examinations.

A recent ATU study revealed that ECPs who view the LIDS campaign are significantly more confident in diagnosing DB and are more likely to have their patients look down during an exam. ECPs are also reporting a significant increase in DB cases in their practice and a positive shift in recognizing collarettes as a sign of the disease.
