Inequality You Can’t Ignore (The Chrysalis Initiative and EVERSANA INTOUCH)
U.S studies show that Black women are 42% more likely to face death from breast cancer than white women. In a systemically biased healthcare system, Black women are often ignored and treated with prejudices that keep them from receiving an equitable standard of care.
To combat these inequities, EVERSANA INTOUCH collaborated with cancer survivor and founder of The Chrysalis Initiative, Jamil Rivers, to launch “Erase the Line”—the award-winning campaign that included the first-ever app created specifically for women of color facing racism and bias in breast cancer care.
The “Inequality You Can’t Ignore” campaign features three women who were negatively affected by discrimination in their breast cancer care. Powerful photography depicts each woman with the inequality symbol painted boldly across their breasts in white. A QR code on ads activates an AR experience full of facts about the biases that Black women face. It lands on a microsite and a lesson in unconscious bias training.
In addition, EVERSANA INTOUCH created a powerful film that tells the emotional story of the racism these three courageous women have experienced during treatment, the unconscious bias that exists in society today.
In total, 2,158 doctors interacted with the campaign and 27 hospitals nationwide are now implementing the Unconscious Bias training in their curriculum. Although a lot must still be done to eliminate the inequities Black women face—particularly in the healthcare and breast care arena—the Chrysalis Initiative will continue to build on this important work.
