Amy West understands that patients are not one monolithic group with homogenous needs but a broadly diverse group of individuals with specific and varying pain points, needs, and expectations. More importantly, she has translated that understanding into real solutions that truly address patients’ needs time and time again.

Early in her career at Novo Nordisk, Amy built the award-winning Cornerstones4Care (C4C) platform, which was the company’s premier patient support platform for people living with diabetes. This innovative platform broadened treatment to include a customized patient-centric, individually tailored approach that supported not only improved adherence and compliance to medication, but also enhanced disease state education and online and telehealth coaching. This tailored engagement became one of the early movers to support holistic care beyond the pill and set the stage for increased experience-based customization and care at a time when innovations involving data and tech were still in their infancy, including telehealth and virtual AI-powered concierge support.

In 2019, Amy spearheaded the establishment of the first U.S. Innovation Incubator, Apis Lab, for Novo Nordisk focused on identifying the root causes of patient healthcare pain points and testing disruptive innovative solutions to address them, including financial stressors, health inequities, environmental conditions, and other impactful social variables. And in her current role leading U.S. Digital Transformation & Innovation, she is dedicated to bringing innovations that transform the patient experience and improve outcomes. Over the last three years, she has driven the development of multiple firsts, including a U.S. digital health strategy and several pilot solutions to optimize the patient experience and outcomes.

A strong believer in cultivating collaborative relationships and partnerships, she has forged alliances with startups, academia, and entrepreneurs to accelerate innovation and disruption in the complex U.S. healthcare market. She is also an advocate for bridging the gap between pharma R&D and customer and market needs by bringing together scientific and commercial experts traditionally siloed from each other to share expertise, perspective, and understanding.

Through her work, Amy has shown that it is possible to create sustainable value for both patients and the pharma industry, and that by putting patients first, it is possible to drive both better health outcomes and commercial success.
