In June, nearly 11,000 members of the medtech community gathered in New York City for Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East 2016—the flagship expo and conference for UBM East, the East Coast’s largest advanced manufacturing event.

On the MD&M East show floor, more than 500 of the medtech industry’s top suppliers showcased end-to-end solutions for the medical device development process. Top companies included 3M, Abbott, Nypro Healthcare, Phillips-Medisize, and Stratasys.

Across four dedicated medtech conference tracks, attendees gained actionable insight into solving design, engineering, prototyping, and manufacturing challenges. Expert panels, product teardowns and more covered Market Value and Consumer Health; New Technologies; Big Data; and Mobile Product Risk. Plus, two additional education tracks explored the latest in pharmaceutical packaging designed to ensure patient safety, as well as Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing processes.

MD&M East kicked off each morning with an inspirational keynote address to connect the dots between business, innovation, and technology. Complimentary to all attendees, keynote sessions featured three industry visionaries—the former CEO of Dyson, Martin McCourt; an astronaut and pioneer in commercial spaceflight, Leroy Chiao; and the world’s most famous hacker, Kevin Mitnick.

Attendees had access to additional complimentary content directly on the Expo floor. Center Stage and Tech Theater featured hot topics including healthcare cyber security, using biocompatibility to evaluate changes in a medical device, and more.

Beyond education, ample networking activities facilitated important connections within the local medtech community—expanding their understanding of critical industry topics and lifesaving innovations.
