PM360 2023 Trailblazer Awards Advertising Agency of the Year Biolumina

Biolumina is the anti-cancer agency, uniquely focused on the over 200 different malignancies within the world of oncology. Amid the dynamic pace of innovation, curiosity is the engine that drives the agency’s success and its record-setting growth year after year. As a full-service, omnichannel agency with over 400 employees, Biolumina delivers customized, data-driven brand communications and experiences that support optimal therapeutic decision-making.

Innovation

The agency helped develop “Let’s Talk About LGSOC,” a disease-state initiative for Verastem Oncology that calls attention to low-grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC), a distinct and under-investigated disease. The team worked closely with women living with LGSOC, who provided input and feedback on the campaign elements and content.

Biolumina’s Customer Experience team uses tools like the CX Roadmap to translate market and product insights into omnichannel content more efficiently and effectively. They can deliver messages that are relevant, while utilizing a wide variety of machine-learning optimizations to deliver these messages at scale.

Biolumina is operationalizing the use of Lithero’s LARA®, an AI-based tool that is intended to enhance and improve employees’ experience—not replace them—by enabling teams to create and prepare content for Marketing and MLR review faster, without compromising accuracy and compliance. This technology is the first tool of its kind for the pharmaceutical space.

Talent Development

Biolumina now provides post-launch time off known as “Changemaker’s Day” to support work-life balance and allow for recharging and recovery time. The company also implemented “The Change Challenge,” an all-agency mandatory call for solutions intended to make the agency a better place to work.

The agency hired Chris Lee as VP, Agency Engagement, a new position focused on employee experience and innovation in organizational development. Chris will be driving connections across the agency to share learnings and best practices, identifying and expanding opportunities for training and career development, and cultivating the agency’s vibrant culture.

Biolumina is an active participant in OHG CraftLab, which provides real, on-the-job healthcare communications training for students sourced from diversity-rich schools. Two senior creative leaders from Biolumina served as instructors and mentors to the 11 CraftLab participants this year.

Social Responsibility

Biolumina furthered its partnership with COOP, an organization focused on overcoming underemployment of low-income and first-generation college graduates from diverse backgrounds, by hosting a virtual open house to educate participants on pharmaceutical advertising. COOP participants were also offered to take part in #IAmRemarkable sessions hosted by Biolumina. Biolumina recognizes and celebrates diversity through employee resource programs, such as Omnicom’s OMNIwomen, OPEN Pride, OPEN Disability, Black Together, AcentO, Omnicom Asian Leaders Circle, and OHG’s The Black Collective, Unidos, Arise API, OHG Able, OHGQ+, and LGBTQ+.
