Aligning Disparate Data During Drug R&D

Bringing a single drug to market costs on average around $2.5 billion dollars and takes about 10 years—and for every drug that gets approved, 10,000 compounds will fail. A big part of that inefficiency is that scientists working on life-saving discoveries from cancer research to food scarcity struggle with their data locked in silos, often using dozens of different apps to aid them in the drug discovery process. Additionally, within any lab, the collection of data by disparate instruments creates a time-intensive exercise to align the data outputs which can be handled differently from instrument to instrument.

Dotmatics, a leader in R&D scientific software connecting science, data, and decision-making, wanted to help address these issues and launched Dotmatics Luma in October 2023. This new scientific data platform helps scientists and administrators in life sciences unify and analyze large volumes of data for better decision-making. For example, the first component of Luma to be released was Luma Lab Connect, which allows customers to ingest files from any file-based instrument into the Dotmatics cloud and the Luma Lab Connect parsing engine will automatically extract and wrangle embedded descriptive metadata and scientific data with minimal configuration.

The out of the box, low-code SaaS platform should be easy for researchers and scientists to use, and since it is built on Databricks customers can build their own scientific applications to fit their needs. In the future, Dotmatics plans to add generative AI query-building options as well as predictive and adaptive AI features to further augment lab testing and decision-making procedures.
