Finding Innovative Ways to Engage Patients

“Garrett Ingrando has made significant contribution to the pharmaceutical space by showing a deep commitment to serving as a champion for patients in the rare disease space,” says Jared Garnica, Senior Product Manager GI Rare at Takeda. “He is the driving force behind patient-centered marketing efforts from strategy to partnerships with patient organizations to programs that bring patients together who are struggling with their diagnosis.”

At Takeda, Garrett has taken the patient-first model to a new level, helping patients suffering from chronic conditions find the support they need. He even established a Center of Excellence for rare consumer patient marketing, which brought multiple rare GI brands under one team to build capabilities and identify synergies in messaging and providing education to patients.

He has also led the development of patient programs across several strategic objectives, including branded initiatives for Gattex (teduglutide) for short bowel syndrome and unbranded patient education initiatives for complex perianal fistulas (CPF) in Crohn’s disease. And to help patients with a rare condition find a physician with experience treating that disease, Garrett and his team developed a locator tool that allows people to search for experts close to home—as well as give patients a better understanding of a healthcare provider’s specific area of expertise to help them make an informed decision.

Garrett has been bringing patient-focused initiatives to the forefront of consumer marketing even prior to his time at Takeda. While previously at another biopharmaceutical company, he played a key role in the success of a drug indicated for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy—one of the hardest conditions to work on due to the physical limitations the program participants had to contend with. Ultimately, he helped build a robust patient program that served an underserved community of people living with a very challenging diagnosis.

Throughout his career, he has paved the way for further patient content in all formats—video, web, print, social, and email/CRM. This wide variety ensures that patients have access to information that is relevant, up-to-date, and easy to understand, however they happen to communicate. Because for Garrett, the patient always comes first.
