Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease

A Day with Nurse Jen, An atypical-HUS Tale

Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is an extremely rare, life-threatening, progressive disease that poses a lot of uncertainty for those diagnosed with it, especially children. That’s why Alexion decided to provide their young patients with a relatable, engaging picture book that follows the story of Nurse Jen, a fictional character who administers life-saving infusions of monoclonal antibodies to her patients.

Nurse Jen, however, is much more than just the person who provides the much-needed medicine: she is also a mentor, a trusted confidante, and a cheerleader for the children with aHUS. When children and their parents are uncertain about how to plan for things such as traveling or participating in extracurricular activities at school, Nurse Jen can always offer useful solutions, recommendations, and support.
