Boosting Inclusion and Retention

Calcium+Company’s People and Culture team has created an inclusive and welcoming workplace with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), onboarding, and retention programs that promote a better agency experience for all employees.

In Q1 2022, Calcium+Company launched a DEI framework, inspired by the agency’s core values of “Commitment, Integrity, and Respect.” This commitment began with a DEI Council, and continued with the “Herd You” monthly discussion series, “Pharmer’s Market Community Groups” offering resources and a safe space for employees to connect, and a health literacy initiative.

Calcium+Company also launched “I Don’t Have a Box.” This campaign promotes conversation about racial and ethnic blind spots that occur with medical, insurance, and governmental forms and result in limited representation for multiethnic and multiracial individuals. The campaign drives legislative change by providing racial and ethnic inclusion resources for healthcare organizations. The agency also collaborates with the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) and Medical Advertising Hall of Fame (MAHF) on workshops to expand the dialogue around DEI.

Meanwhile, a new onboarding and retention program enhanced new hire orientation with personalized education on the fundamentals of Calcium+Company’s benefits, culture, and policies. Leadership “Meet-and-Greets” with the company’s Group President and Chief People Officer provide opportunities to share agency information. “Pharm Friends,” a buddy program, has improved collaboration across all agency levels and departments.

The team also created tracking tools assessing risks to continued employment. The program has resulted in a 10% reduction in employee turnover. Furthermore, 83% of Calciumites stated that company culture is what most differentiates Calcium from other agencies and 82% said they see themselves staying for the next five years.
