In 1997, Vincent A. Benenati and his brother Lawrence J. Benenati, launched East Coast Orthotic & Prosthetic Corp. from a one room storefront in Elmont, NY. Today, the company employs about 240 people in its offices throughout the Tri-State area providing a variety of “O&P” services in support of many of New York’s major hospitals and physician practices.
In March 2020, Vincent and some of his family members contracted COVID-19 and fortunately recovered relatively quickly. When New York Governor Andrew Cuomo invited companies to bring about solutions to combat the COVID-19 crisis, Vincent, Lawrence, and their family were inspired to act.
Together they launched Secure Wear USA in nearby Ronkonkoma, NY, a new operation housing state-of-the-art technology and equipment used to efficiently manufacture and distribute a variety of PPE, including surgical masks and face shields. They committed to personally overseeing the design and production processes to ensure the quality of each mask and face shield. This was essential at the time because demand for PPE was so high and unfortunately, fraud was rampant. Many of these companies were selling defective products that did not adhere to regulated safety and quality standards.
Price gouging was also rampant. However, the Benenati family stuck with the same fair pricing and quality standards they had always adhered to with East Coast. Based on the reputation and trust they developed through East Coast, Secure Wear USA received early orders for surgical masks and face shields from hospitals, nursing facilities, government agencies, and private workplaces.
As the Federal government, scientists, and other health experts all advocate the importance of wearing protective masks and face shields during the COVID-19 pandemic, Secure Wear USA has become a trusted source for these products helping to keep people healthy and safe.
