Helping Patients Through Connected Tech

Dan Weinstein is a serial healthcare entrepreneur whose passion is using new technologies to improve people’s health.

First, in 2014, Dan co-founded and served as Chief Operating Officer of Cohero Health, Inc., which brought to market one of the world’s first digital health solutions for people with respiratory disease via a connected asthma inhaler.

More recently, in March of 2018, Dan launched Oshi Health, a venture-backed digital health company for the management and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Dan is personally committed to improving the lives of people with these conditions because his mother suffers from IBD.

Oshi Health helps patients better self-manage their IBD through personalized patient education and tools to track treatments and outcomes. The platform automatically syncs health data from leading wearables and collects patient-reported outcomes data in real time. This helps users discover hard-to-spot patterns so they can better understand what causes flare-ups and other symptoms. Analytics is then applied to this real-world evidence to build flare prediction algorithms.

Information is also presented in a dashboard to help physicians quickly assess a patient’s status. Oshi Health is applying machine learning to identify the most effective treatment plans for subpopulations. This allows Oshi to be used as a digital therapeutic, which provides personalized treatment recommendations, based on findings from the platform’s population monitoring. Oshi’s goal is also to answer the many un-answered questions in IBD, such as the role of diet and the microbiome.

“As someone who has battled Crohn’s disease for 13 years, I’m excited an app like this is on the market,” says Natalie (Sparacio) Hayden, author of the blog Lights Camera Crohn’s. “I wish I had a tool like Oshi when I was initially diagnosed. A tool that empowers me to be my own best advocate and stay on top of symptoms. We now have the power to advance our own healthcare and give our gastroenterologists a clear look at the back story of our day-to-day lives.”

Since launching on June 1, 2018, Oshi’s mobile app has been installed 45,000 times, making it the clear #1 IBD management mobile platform globally.
