On October 22, 2013, the Galien Foundation hosted the 4th Galien Forum and the 2013 Prix Galien USA Awards ceremony in New York City. The Foundation fosters, recognizes and rewards excellence in scientific innovation to improve the state of human health. Their vision is to be the catalyst for the development of the next generation of innovative treatment and technologies that will impact human health and save lives.
The annual Galien Forum features roundtable debates focusing on critical, global healthcare issues and challenges. This year’s program included a panel of current industry CEOs tackling the impact of the Affordable Care Act on the biopharmaceutical industry: Ken Frazier, Merck; Alex Gorsky, Johnson & Johnson; and John Lechleiter, PhD, Eli Lilly & Company, moderated by P. Roy Vagelos, MD, Chairman of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals.
The 2013 Prix Galien USA Awards ceremony, considered the biomedical industry’s highest accolade, recognizes the technical, scientific and clinical research skills necessary to develop innovative medicines and devices. Awards were presented in three categories: “Best Biotechnology Product,” “Best Pharmaceutical Agent,” and “Best Medical Technology.” Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, Director, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) received the Pro Bono Humanum Award, which recognizes exemplary and innovative efforts in improving the human condition.
