GTO Greater Good is pleased to announce it has received a grant from the U.S. Mission to UNESCO’s Education office. The grant will allow GTO Greater Good to develop and implement an interactive, dynamic digital teaching platform to help prevent violent extremism.

The digital platform is an innovative solution aimed at addressing violent extremism through education, including mitigating aggression and increasing empathy and compassion in students and educators. GTO Greater Good will train teachers how to use this resource at the training seminar at UNESCO’s Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development in New Delhi in August 2017. UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova will attend this event, along with a number of Education Ministers.

“We strive to understand the roots of violent extremism and provide an educational approach to make it more difficult for violent extremist ideologies and acts to thrive,” said Elizabeth Apelles, Chairman of GTO Greater Good.

The award is part of a program based on the adoption of UNESCO’s Executive Board decision on UNESCO’s role in preventing violent extremism through education and the UN Secretary General’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism. The importance of engaging in genuine prevention efforts has been prioritized, with a clear emphasis on the role of education as one of the most effective measures to create conditions that make it difficult for violent extremist ideologies and acts to thrive.

GTO Greater Good, the nonprofit subsidiary of the GTO Group, is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to making a positive impact in the world around us. Please visit www.gtogreatergood.org.
