Health Mart The leading franchise of 3,000 independently owned pharmacies, appointed Stephen E. Courtman to the position of President. He will work with Health Mart members and McKesson leadership to leverage the power and expertise of the group’s 3,000 independent pharmacies, while driving the rapid adoption of operational efficiencies, technology innovation and expanded clinical capabilities.

The scientific and healthcare communications company hired Shelly Asiala, PharmD as Scientific Writer. She joins the company with six years of experience as a laboratory scientist in the pharmaceutical industry. She received her doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan in May 2012.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Rob Rogers, co-CEO, the Americas at Sudler & Hennessey (S&H), was selected to receive the 2012 CLIO Healthcare Lifetime Achievement Award. Rogers was nominated by more than 120 peers from cities around the globe. He was praised by the judges as the “ultimate creative craftsman who has created a lifetime legacy of work” and the “quintessential creative who has earned the respect of the industry.” An accomplished artist and life-long rock ‘n’ roller who leads S&H’s in-house band, “Late Nite Car Service,” Rogers began his career in the art department at S&H Sydney. After establishing his own agency and selling it to Grey Healthcare, he re-joined S&H to lead the Asia Pacifi c region for fi ve years, before returning to the U.S. as co-CEO, where he provides clients with creative strategic solutions. “I’m extremely grateful for this honor, and also realize my indebtedness to the individuals and teams who made so much of the best work,” Rogers said. “I guess this award is really for all of them.”

34-Year Visionary to Lead Efforts in Lowering Healthcare Costs

Nicholas J. Valeriani was named CEO of the West Health Institute and Chief Executive of West Health, whose mission is to lower healthcare costs by creating innovative, patient-centered solutions. West Health is comprised of four distinct entities, including West Health Institute, a nonprofit 501c3 medical research organization. Valeriani will chair the executive committee of the West Health initiative, directing its efforts to lower healthcare costs through solutions in four crucial areas: innovative medical research, policy, investment and entrepreneurship. Valeriani brings to the position 34 years at Johnson & Johnson where he established himself as a visionary healthcare leader. He was instrumental in identifying global healthcare trends that led to the creation of a new wellness and prevention business platform. He also pioneered opportunities in the area of digital health.

Kantar Health

Promoted Graeme Jacombs to Managing Director of the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (APMEA). He will be responsible for the company’s regional strategy, local business planning and client support in APMEA. Jacombs joined Kantar in 1993, serving in a variety of roles.

Kevin Webb was promoted to Chief Operating Officer for the Americas. Webb will be responsible for the regulatory groups based in Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., San Juan, Puerto Rico, and San Diego and San Francisco, CA.

The healthcare advertising agency promoted Kimberly Clotman to SVP of the Astellas account group. Andrea Stout joins as an Associate Creative DirectorCopy on Astellas. These members were added to manage the recently won Astellas Pharma, U.S. business, and to accommodate overall agency growth.

Simcere Pharmaceuticals

The pharma company based in China appointed Hongquan Liu, as its Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Board. Between 2000 and 2012, Liu held the positions of Director and General Manager of SinoSwed Pharmaceutical Corp. Ltd. Prior to this, he held the executive positions at Pharmacia & Upjohn (China) Ltd., and Pharmacia Corporation. Liu received an EMBA degree from China Europe International Business School and a bachelor’s degree from Shanxi College of Finance and Economics.

Sucampo Pharmaceuticals

The global pharma company based in Bethesda, MD, focused on discovery, development and commercialization of prostone-based drugs, hired Glenn Noronha, Ph.D. as Vice President of Research and Development. He is responsible for the development of the overall product portfolio from research through approval and will assist in strengthening and leading the company’s
U.S. R&D functions.

Symphony Health Solutions

The healthcare research and analytics conglomerate hired three new senior executives. John Milana joins as Chief Financial Officer who brings extensive experience of financial operational leadership. Jon Rosan has been named General Counsel, and brings nearly 20 years of experience in intellectual property licensing, corporate governance and commercial transactions. Nigel Pratt has accepted his position as Chief Technology Officer, and brings nearly 30 years of software engineering experience.

Hired David C. Marek as Executive Vice President, Consumer Services.
