“In 2022, Kim was presented with the Novartis Legacy Award, which recognized her ongoing dedication to upholding the interests, quality of life, and welfare of oncology patients.”
Recently, Kim was tasked with developing a resource that would empower healthcare providers to better educate patients about the complexities of receiving CAR-T therapy (chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy). The complexities include the preparation process, patient support, time commitment, and long-term follow-up care procedures, as well as some of the individual questions and needs specific patients may have.
Kim worked with Bionical to deliver a digital platform called MED Select®. The application allows the healthcare providers and team members to develop customized education to meet the needs of the sites that are educating patients. Kim’s efforts allowed Novartis representatives to work directly with the healthcare provider to customize education based on their needs about what to expect before, during, and after therapy. The therapy can be a long process, and the resource took special care to support patients through it.
The modular approach allowed representatives and healthcare providers to engage in conversations about educational options. By empowering the healthcare provider to build custom education, the brand was able to ensure patients were receiving the most meaningful resources possible—all at the point of care.
Kim’s hard work, empathetic dedication, and commitment to bettering the lives of oncology patients is paying off. The resource has effectively helped remove hurdles for patients by ensuring meaningful education is being delivered, while also extending the time that the representative spends with the healthcare provider discussing the educational complexities of the treatment.
