Meet the moderator

Duncan MacRae

Duncan MacRae is the Director, Editorial Strategy and Publishing Policy for Wolters Kluwer, one of the world’s foremost publishers of medical, nursing and allied health journals. In this role, Duncan oversees the development and implementation of editorial policies followed by journals in the Lippincott and Medknow imprints. In addition, he works with a portfolio of editorial service providers to assist our society partners in achieving their strategic goals.

Prior to joining Wolters Kluwer Health in 2013, Duncan established a 15-year career, providing editorial management for the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, PriMed and the International Congress of Neuropathology.

Meet the panelists

José Biller, MD, FACP, FAAN, FANA, FAHA

José Biller, MD, FACP, FAAN, FANA, FAHA is Professor of Neurology and Neurological Surgery and Chairperson of the Department of Neurology at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. Biller is American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) certified (and recertified, including Combined Maintenance of Certification) in Neurology and Vascular Neurology, and certified in Headache Medicine (UCNS).

Dr. Biller served as Director of the ABPN from 1994 to 2001, and President of the ABPN in 2001, and currently holds the title of Emeritus Director of the ABPN. He is the Editor of the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, the recent past Chief-Editor of Frontiers in Neurology, and an editorial board member and reviewer for an array of other national and international journals and publications. He has published more than 380 peer-reviewed articles, more than 155 book chapters, edited 35 books, and given more than 750 lectures around the world. Dr. Biller earned his medical degree from the School of Medicine at the University of the Republic in Montevideo, Uruguay, where he had post-graduate training in Internal Medicine. He then completed Residency in Neurology at Loyola University Chicago and a Cerebrovascular Research Fellowship at Wake Forest University, Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Dr. Biller was the recipient of the American Neurological Association (ANA) Distinguished Neurology Teacher Award in 2013. He was also awarded the 2020 A.B. Baker Lifetime Award for Teaching in Neurology by the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) and the 2023 William M. Feinberg Award for Excellence in Clinical Stroke Award (American Stroke Association).

Heather Phipps, MD

Dr. Phipps serves as Assistant Dean for Clinical Education, Division Chief of Surgery, and Associate Professor of Clinical Education for Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences. She served for 20 years as an Orthopedic Surgeon in Kennewick, WA.

Dr. Phipps received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She graduated with an MBA from Washington State University. Dr. Phipps completed an Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey. Dr. Phipps is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery. In 2021 Dr. Phipps completed her Osteopathic Healthcare Policy Fellowship through the American Osteopathic Association.

During her tenure as an Orthopedic Surgeon in Kennewick, WA Dr. Phipps served as the Managing Partner for Physical Therapy and as a member of the Governing Board for an ambulatory surgery center. She has served on the Pacific Northwest University Board of Trustees, including serving as Chair. She has served in the positions of Chief of Surgery, Representative to Medical Executive Committee, and Credentials Committee at Trios Health Hospital. Dr. Phipps was the founding Designated Institutional Official for the Trios Health Graduate Medical Education Department.

Aaron Gindea, MD

Dr. Gindea graduated from NYU School of Medicine in 1982. He did his internal medicine internship and residency at the NYU-Bellevue program where he also did his cardiology fellowship. He remained at NYU where he started his clinical practice while working in the echocardiography lab at NYU. He spent several years as the director of noninvasive cardiology at the Manhattan VA Hospital (a major teaching hospital of the NYU program). As his family grew, he moved to Long Island where he became affiliated with North Shore University Hospital and the Northwell Physician Partners (approximately 10 years ago). He has also been involved with the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra since its inception and is one of the co-course directors of the first year homeostasis course at the medical school.
