Virtual Heroes Releases 3D Medical Trainer HumanSim: Sedation and Airway

RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 1, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Virtual Heroes Division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. has released HumanSim: Sedation and Airway, a 3D virtual trainer for administering emergency anesthesia and managing breathing. This marks the first time the software, which Virtual Heroes developed for the Army’s Telemedicine & Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC), is available to the public.

HumanSim: Sedation and Airway couples an immersive 3D training environment with an advanced physiology engine. The software allows physicians, nurses, medics, and other emergency personnel to practice Rapid Sequence Induction (RSI) and Moderate Sedation, techniques for quickly sedating and intubating critically injured patients. Trainees are challenged by ten separate scenarios, with patient complications such as airway trauma and multiple drug interactions, covering a very wide variety of patient situations.

Randy Brown, Virtual Heroes Division Manager said, “It was an honor to create this medical training application for the U.S. Army, in support of their pre-deployment training for Soldiers returning to the field. Combining our Unreal-Engine-based virtual training systems with a real-time physiology engine created a significantly challenging sedation and airway trainer applicable to the military and commercial medical spaces. Our hope is by releasing this application that more patients can be saved in the real world through our virtual training.”
