Veterinarian Dr. Brieana Tunison is the newest veterinarian to join the team at Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin.

“On behalf of the entire emergency care team at Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin, I am honored to welcome Dr. Brieana Tunison to Austin,” said Dr. Scott I. Johnson, owner of the hospital since 1985. “Brieana epitomizes the best qualities in a veterinarian: compassion, intelligence and a passionate dedication to providing the highest standards of care for pets, ranging from continued care for referral patients to urgent emergency surgery to save an animal’s life. We are truly lucky to call her one of our own.”

A 2014 magna cum laude graduate of Texas A&M Veterinary School, Dr. Tunison got her start in veterinary medicine while working as a veterinary technician. She graduated summa cum laude from Tarleton State University in 2010 with a B.A. in Animal Science.

“From an early age, I have always loved caring for animals and been especially drawn to providing emergency and urgent care for animals in need,” said Dr. Tunison. “After completing my veterinary degree, I enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with pet owners at a small animal practice in Georgetown. However, my true passion lies in urgent care work, so I am especially thrilled to join Emergency Animal Hospital Northwest Austin.”

At Emergency Animal Hospital Northwest Austin, Dr. Tunison will provide urgent and emergency and critical care for pets. This includes in-house diagnostic services such as pet radiology, blood work, x-rays, endoscopy and ultrasound to determine the cause of a veterinary health emergency. Oxygen therapy, emergency pet surgery, and transfusion therapy is also available. Dr. Tunison will treat common pet emergencies, including pet heatstroke, trauma, pet poisoning, and snakebites.

Dr. Tunison and her husband have one son. Together they have four rescued dogs: three Pit Bull mixes named Jack, Alizé, and Maya, and one Chihuahua mix named Lil’ Bit. They also have a ferret named Nilla and a large fishpond full of Koi.

When not providing urgent veterinary care, she enjoys spending time with her family, riding her motorcycle with her husband, and enjoying Austin’s beautiful outdoors through hiking, running, kayaking, and gardening.
