U.S. News and World Report Names University of Colorado Hospital to Best Hospitals Honor Roll

AURORA, Colo., Aug. 2, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — For the first time, U.S. News and World Reporthas named University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) to the Best Hospitals Honor Roll, recognizing it as one of the nation’s top 20 hospitals out of almost 5,000 evaluated. U.S. News has also named UCH as the number one hospital in Colorado, with 10 individual specialties ranked among the best in the United States.

“We are honored by this recognition not only because we are one of the nation’s top hospitals, but because this shows our dedication to providing the very best and most innovative patient care,” said Elizabeth Concordia, president and CEO of UCHealth. “Patients travel here from across the nation because they recognize that UCHealth can provide advanced treatments and superior outcomes for our patients.”

In addition to ranking #2 in the U.S. in pulmonology, UCH is nationally ranked in these specialties:

  • Kidney disorders
  • Cancer
  • Orthopedics
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery
  • Diabetes & Endocrinology
  • Gynecology
  • Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
  • Cardiology & Heart Surgery
  • Geriatrics

U.S. Newsalso recognized the specialties of Urology and Rheumatology as “high performing.”

UCH is the academic medical center of UCHealth, a nonprofit health care system that includes five hospitals and more than 100 clinics throughout Colorado. U.S. News ranks all UCHealth hospitals among the top 6 in Colorado:

  • Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland is ranked #3
  • Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins is ranked #5
  • Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs is ranked #6

Innovative treatments, clinical trials and advanced surgeries provided by faculty from the University of Colorado School of Medicine set UCHealth and University of Colorado Hospital apart. Many of these services, provided by the School of Medicine’s nationally-recognized experts, are provided nowhere else in the Rocky Mountain region.

“Our excellent physicians, nurses, staff and other providers deserve the credit for this distinction,” said Concordia. “UCHealth’s superior clinical results and patient satisfaction scores are a result of the work of these dedicated individuals.”

The annual U.S. News rankings, now in their 27th year, analyze nearly 5,000 hospitals to recognize those that excel in treating patients with the most complex medical conditions.

“Barely 150 hospitals – about 3 percent of the nearly 5,000 we evaluated – were nationally ranked in even one specialty,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “Even fewer excelled across numerous areas of care, as each of these Honor Roll hospitals did.”
