NEW YORK, Oct. 16, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Jill Pitcher, DO has been elected to the American Health Council’s Board of Physicians. Eager to share her expertise in Family Medicine and Teaching, Dr. Pitcher has 23 intensive years of practice under her belt and a further six years in her current position as Associate Professor of Primary Care Medicine at Rocky Vista University, College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Pitcher brings her extensive 29 years of experience in the healthcare industry, commitment to compassionate medical care, and passion for teaching to the Board of Physicians.
Dr. Pitcher’s interest in medicine developed during her medical academic pursuits. In 1988, Dr. Pitcher graduated from Western University of Health Sciences with a Doctor of Osteopathy degree and subsequently completed an Osteopathic Family Medicine Internship and Residency at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center. The major areas of study include Osteopathic Medicine in Primary Care, Human Resource Science, Human Nutrition and Teaching. Dr. Pitcher was drawn to medical practice with important skills using manual or manipulation techniques to augment all other tools in modern medicine. She has applied this science to patients in every practice setting as well as in her present teaching career. Having mastered clinical practice for 23 years, Dr. Pitcher transitioned into a teaching position at RVU that breathed new life into her career and revitalized her love of medicine. In this position, Dr. Pitcher realized her passion of teaching, acting as a source of valuable clinical knowledge and experience for her medical students and working towards her goal of increased compassion in medical discourse. Additionally, Dr. Pitcher is regularly involved in four Board positions with Colorado-based healthcare organizations, where she is also able to share her valuable clinical understanding with colleagues.
Regularly identified as a leader in her field, Dr. Pitcher holds a Board Membership and Past-President position of the Denver Osteopathic Foundation, a Board Membership and Past-President position of the Colorado Society of Osteopathic Medicine, Board membership of the Colorado Physicians Health Program, an appointment to Standard Setting Committee for the COMLEX-USA Level 2 Physical Exam National Board 2017. Currently, she also serves as Founding Diplomat of the American Board of Holistic Medicine and President of the Colorado Chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. Her fierce dedication and clinical acumen have led to shining professional accomplishments spanning her three decades of service. These professional awards include President’s Award for Service to the College by the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in 1988, 2015 Colorado Osteopathic Physician of the Year, as well as A.T. Still Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2012, 2013, and 2017. Dr. Pitcher maintains affiliations with Colorado Society of Osteopathic Medicine, Denver Osteopathic Association, National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, American Board of Osteopathic Medicine, and American Osteopathic Association.
Dr. Pitcher has ambitious professional goals for the next few years. She has completed ACOFP Fellowship requirements and hopes to earn Fellow status in 2018. She will continue her learning and service to students and faculty at Rocky Vista University, working toward her full professorship next year. She will also stay very involved, at a state level, with the professional organizations representing Osteopathy and the medical profession.
Dr. Pitcher promotes her ideal of compassion in healthcare outside of her professional work, donating her time and resources to altruistic causes. Since 1998, she has helped with low-income child health programs in the community through the Denver Osteopathic Foundation and, in 2016, assisted the initiation of a free clinic run by a group of exemplary RVU medical students. In her spare time, Dr. Pitcher enjoys anything outdoors. For years she has taken her horses on camping trips and enjoys lengthy motorcycle trips around Colorado, even extending as far as Canada.
