Redefining What It Means to Be a Trailblazer

I have always known how special our industry is. It’s why 13 years ago I created a new set of awards and called them the Trailblazers. Because that word perfectly defined what this industry does best. From therapeutics that treat unmet needs to devices that keep people alive longer—this industry specializes in blazing new trails to better serve patients. I thought I already fully appreciated what our industry does and understood what it is capable of, but then a global pandemic happened.

Over the course of these past 19 months, I learned I could be much more appreciative of this industry and still be completely blown away by what it’s able to accomplish. Previously, the fastest a vaccine had ever been developed was four years. Moderna developed their COVID-19 vaccine in just 11 months. That redefines trailblazing and is what makes them our Pharma/Biotech Company of the Year.

When sales reps could no longer get in to see HCPs, Zoe Cohen of Doximity helped launch new offerings to keep the lines of communication open virtually, which would also help her company achieve 100% year-over-year revenue growth. She redefined what it means to be a Trailblazer and was an obvious choice for our Marketer of the Year.

Rozita Passarella of Clarus Therapeutics launched a new product just weeks before the pandemic forced reps to come in from the road, and yet three days later she rolled out a new remote plan. With many surgeries being postponed, DePuy Synthes couldn’t demonstrate its new robotic-assisted surgery solution—that is until Jeff LaConte launched a 3D virtual OR where surgeons could experience the cutting-edge technology. And even though BioReference Laboratories was developing effective COVID-19 testing solutions, few knew of the small laboratory, until Hillary M. Titus’ robust awareness plan led to deals with five professional sports leagues, as well as New York State, New York City, Miami, and Detroit. All redefined trailblazing. All were named Brand Champions.

Their achievements—and the accomplishments of all 67 winners—prove this industry knows no bounds and will continue to do things previously thought not possible. While we once again threw a virtual bash to show these winners our gratitude (which you can see photo highlights of here or watch the full event here), we can’t wait until the day when we can once again celebrate in person. We know that time is right around the corner, and will be because this industry blazed new trails to get us there.
