For example, Gout Lies was a data-driven campaign to dispel gout misconceptions and uncover the truth of the damage it can cause. The objective was to encourage rheumatologists to rethink how they perceive gout and increase the urgency to treat before permanent damage occurs. Through a series of expert videos, clinical data, and visuals evoking the style of 1950s propaganda, Gout Lies called attention to data suggesting that gout-related damage can continue even after the end of a flare.
Down and Out Kidney is a progressive, disruptive, animated video, explaining the interaction between the kidneys and uric acid. The objective was to alert nephrologists to the systemic impact that high uric acid can have on the body and activate them to play a larger role in the diagnosis and treatment of uncontrolled gout. When nephrologists go through formal training, gout is typically not presented as a problem that should be urgently addressed—despite data showing a tenfold increase in the prevalence of gout for people with moderate-to-severe chronic kidney disease (CKD) compared to those with normal kidney function.
