Bryan Hanson is the Chairman, President, and CEO of Zimmer Biomet (ZB), a global Fortune 500 company with a 90+ year legacy of leadership and proven expertise in medical devices and technology designed to maximize mobility and improve health. During his five-year tenure at ZB, Bryan has spearheaded pivotal commercial, business development, organizational, and philanthropic initiatives to advance ZB’s mission and values, while fostering its growth amidst the unprecedented pressures of a global pandemic.
An ardent champion of a mission-driven corporate culture, Bryan spent a large part of his first year as CEO traveling to ZB locations around the world to reinforce ZB’s mission and values and share his vision for the company’s future. Within the next few years, Bryan led a focused effort to improve gender and racial diversity among the ZB leadership team.
Under Bryan’s leadership, ZB has: forged partnerships with technology giants, Microsoft and Apple, to develop and deliver digital health and augmented reality solutions to improve orthopedic surgery outcomes and patient care; pioneered Persona IQ®, the world’s first and only smart knee implant which collects objective kinematic data that can be accessed throughout the surgical journey, supplementing patient care; accelerated growth by spinning-off ZB’s spine and dental businesses to form an independent, publicly traded company; launched ROSA® Robotics, and built and introduced ZBEdge™, a revolutionary suite of digital and robotic technologies designed to deliver data-powered clinical insights across the patient journey.
Fueled by a lifelong personal passion for advancing racial justice and equality, Bryan instituted Zimmer Biomet Commitments, a concrete set of plans and initiatives to accelerate change within the company and around the globe. A few months later, Bryan established the Zimmer Biomet Foundation, a 501(c)(3) philanthropic organization, and committed $2 million to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to support partnered efforts to end racial injustice and advance diversity and equality.
Bryan’s relentless commitment to bringing ZB’s mission to life while delivering value to shareholders has transformed ZB into a bold and innovative global MedTech powerhouse, fueled by his vision to integrate devices, digital, and robotic technologies with the goal of supporting data-informed clinical decision-making and transforming the patient experience. A testament to Bryan’s leadership and commitment, ZB has garnered national and industry recognitions, including Fast Company’s World’s Most Innovative Companies (2022), Forbes’ Best Place to Work – Indiana (2021), Forbes’ Best Employers for Diversity (2021, 2022) and Best Large Employers (2022), MedTech Breakthrough’s Best Overall Medical Device Solution for Persona IQ (2022), PM360’s Medical Device Company of the Year (2021), and a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equity Index, earning ZB the distinction of HRC Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+.
