Innovation
One of Zimmer Biomet’s three core innovations in the past year is mymobility®, a unique remote care management platform and app for the iPhone and Apple Watch. It uses the Apple Watch sensors to monitor patient activity and post-operative progress and acts as a virtual care team member by providing patients with support and guidance from their HCPs from the comfort of their home.
ROSA Robotics is a multiple application robotics platform which includes the ROSA Knee System for knee replacement surgery and ROSA ONE® for neurosurgical and spine procedures. ROSA features 3D pre-operative planning tools, real-time, intraoperative data, and assists surgeons in achieving accuracy, precision, and efficiency beyond human capabilities.
OrthoIntel aggregates and analyzes pre- and post-operative data collected by mymobility and intraoperative data collected by ROSA, and translates it into actionable clinical insights to guide data-informed, clinical decision-making.
Talent Development
In 2019, with the understanding that words are not enough and companies must act and be held accountable, the company developed a list of “Zimmer Biomet Commitments” which include initiatives to engage the 23,000 global team members in cultural awareness and inclusion programming.
The company also commits at least $5M over five years through the ZB Foundation to non-profit organizations doing the work of anti-racism and supporting diversity, equality, and justice, while expanding their student and early career internship programs to attract and develop more Black leaders.
Zimmer Biomet made Forbes’ “America’s Best Employers for Diversity” list, based on a survey of U.S. employees asked about topics such as age and gender equality, ethnicity, disability, LGBTQA+, and diversity.
Social Responsibility
In 2020, Zimmer formalized over 90 years of corporate philanthropy by establishing the Zimmer Biomet Foundation to empower diverse and underserved communities, support STEM education, enable community health, and provide disaster relief. The Foundation furthers healthcare by donating Zimmer Biomet products, providing medical education and training, and continuing foundational work to address musculoskeletal health disparities through the “Movement is Life” initiative.
The Foundation includes a partnership with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Empowerment Programs, in which they committed $2 million over the next three years to support efforts to end racial injustice. The partnership also includes funding for the establishment of the first NAACP Black Opportunity Index, which will help address healthcare disparities and expand medical access to underserved communities.
Zimmer converted their HQ to be wholly powered by renewable, green energy, and made efforts to become sustainable across their manufacturing networks. The company reduced their hazardous waste to only 2.5% of its waste across facilities.
