Pharma’s Sweet Spots and Challenges

It seems like only yesterday that hand-picked participants of the Trailblazer Circle of Excellence, generously sponsored by Health Monitor Network, gathered to brainstorm on what constitutes quality content and how important that is to point of care messaging aimed at educating patients, physicians, and HCPs on the scientific knowledge needed to improve health outcomes. The goal is to facilitate that all-important conversation between patient and physician—not a new goal, and yes…to also prompt an ask from the patient.

But it is much more than that, especially since it’s not uncommon for many traditional physicians, who rely on products they’ve used for years, to be unaware of new, or newer, disease-specific products that may be better for their patients. Education at point of care is more important than ever—and it has to grab attention on an emotional level that demonstrates caring and empathy.

Caring and empathy are also important to the lives of rare and chronic disease patients, and specialty and retail pharmacies play an important role throughout these patients’ lives—pharmacist and pharmacy staff come to be viewed as family (click here). Also in this issue, GSK exclusively shares a blueprint (click here) for sustained innovation achieved by integrating internal and external teams—now 50/50 at the company.

Today our industry struggles with outsized challenges, including increased transparency and rebate changes that could alter the pharma-payer dynamic, and on top of that, what some call the threat of copay accumulators. Experts in these areas offer guidance and suggest solutions. You can find these insights in our Focus On: Payer Strategies section.

Finally, watch for our May issue, as we celebrate our 2019 ELITE Award Winners, our Entrepreneurs, Leaders, Innovators, and Transformers. This year’s UBER ELITE Award winner, David Spetzler, Ph.D., President and Chief Scientific Officer of Caris Life Sciences, is a renowned innovator in molecular science whose aim is to fulfill the promise of precision medicine through quality and innovation. But we don’t want to give too much away—watch for his profile! Again, we invite you to come and rub elbows with these industry luminaries at a special celebratory networking event on July 16th at 230 FIFTH in NYC. Don’t miss it!
