Keep Your Head in the Game

Working 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.—and later—can make it hard to eat right throughout the day. Deadlines, meetings, and constant email streams can keep us from eating for hours or drive us to stress-eat at lunch or after work hours. Perhaps the easiest, healthiest, and tastiest way to nourish your body and keep your head in the game is to pack snacks you can enjoy right at your desk. These go-to snacks make it easy to feel more energized and less hungry while you’re hard at work.

Apple and Peanut Butter: Peanut butter is a healthy, filling snack that’s easy to keep on hand in the office. Pair it with a green apple and you have yourself a satisfying snack you can feel good about.

Greek Yogurt with Toppings: By now you probably know that non-fat Greek yogurt is really the only type of yogurt without a ton of added sugars. If your bored with plain yogurt you can easily spice it up by bringing a baggie of granola, a handful of strawberries, and/or a banana with you to sprinkle in. If you’re craving something sweet, keep a bottle of honey with you to drizzle on top.

Veggies and Dip: While raw carrots, celery, or peppers may not sound like an exciting or filling snack themselves, pairing them with dips can make them quite flavorful. Hummus, salsa, and nut butters are all nutritious and delicious choices.

Nuts or Trail Mix: While these choices are obvious healthy snacks, many of us don’t reach for them because they’re too expensive. Purchasing nuts and trail mix in bulk can make this more feasible. You might even want to make your own trail mix by mixing your favorite things, such as M&M’s, raisins, pretzels, or seeds along with nuts such as cashews, almonds, or peanuts.

Dried Fruit or Fruit Juice: Incorporating fruit into your everyday diet isn’t always easy since it’s difficult to keep fresh all week. You can keep a pack of dried fruit right at your desk or sip on a low-sugar fruit drink to keep energized and satisfied throughout the day.

Popcorn: It isn’t only for movie night! Popcorn can be a fun and easy snack to keep you from reaching for candy or other sweets when you’re trying to get through the work day. Season the popcorn with pepper, truffle oil, Parmesan cheese, and other interesting toppings rather than butter and salt.

Acai Bowls: This latest super food trend is easy to make at home and much cheaper than purchasing at your local deli or restaurant. You can buy a package of creamy acai, add in whatever toppings you like (other fruits, granola, and seeds work well), separate them into containers and keep in your fridge for the week. Grab these on your way out to ensure you’ll have a filling and super healthy snack when you need a pick-me-up at work.
