Health Union announced that it has acquired WEGO Health, making the newly combined company one of the largest team of experts, patient advocates, and healthcare leaders in social health. Health Union launched its first online health community, Migraine.com, in 2010, and today the company maintains 33 condition-specific communities with a 34th expected to be added by the end of June and more slated to launch by the end of the year and beyond. Now, the company adds WEGO Health’s Patient Leader Network, which is the world’s largest network of patient leaders with 100,000 individuals that includes advocates, community leaders, creators, and influencers.

All of WEGO Health’s products and services are becoming part of Health Union and all employees of the company are also joining Health Union, including Jack Barrette, CEO and Founder of WEGO Health, who will join Health Union’s executive leadership team. In an email interview with PM360, Olivier Chateau, Health Union’s Co-founder and CEO said that while WEGO Health’s current business solutions and services will continue as usual for now, they will be integrated with Health Union’s media, advertising, research, and clinical trial services beginning in 2022.

“Throughout its history, WEGO Health has built strong recognition and trusted relationships through its Patient Leader Network, awards, and influencer programs,” Chateau said in the same email interview with PM360. “Over time, these offerings will be called ‘Health Union WEGO’ to assure all stakeholders of the same experiences they know and trust, now existing within Health Union. Meanwhile, Health Union’s online health communities and its various offerings will remain exactly the same. Together with WEGO Health, Health Union will continue to deliver the gold standard in patient engagement and shape the future of social health.”

In addition to expanding opportunities within its online health communities, Health Union also plans to create and deliver unique solutions that impact all people on their health journey, from patients who passively seek health information to patient advocates and influencers who actively share health information on multiple social media platforms.

“In terms of the benefits for marketers going forward, with expanded opportunities and solutions that meet people where they are, Health Union can activate patients on a massive scale through online communities and the Patient Leader Network, identify new conditions to support, and continue to create value for everyone we serve,” Chateau explained to PM360. “Together, the depth and breadth of our impact provides our partners with a cohesive source for all of their patient-centred marketing needs.”
