Saving Lives with Mobile Health
Countless lives have been saved due to the efforts of Donato Tramuto, a true global healthcare activist. Throughout his 35-year career, he has not only built Physicians Interactive into one of the leading providers of insight-driven digital engagement solutions for healthcare professionals and consumers, but he has also truly transformed healthcare access around the globe—which is how he helps to save lives.
In 2011, Donato founded Health eVillages, a non-profit program of Physicians Interactive and the not-for-profit RFK Human Rights organization. Health eVillages provides state-of-the-art mobile health technology (including medical reference and clinical decision support resources) to medical professionals in the most challenging clinical environments around the world. Among them are Haiti (following the hurricanes and earthquake in 2010); Angels of Hope Medical Clinics, which provide critical medical care in remote areas in Uganda; and Kijabe Hospital, a non-profit hospital serving the most vulnerable in Kenya and surrounding East African countries.
Under Donato’s leadership, Health eVillages also financed a new maternity clinic for the Lwala Community Alliance (LCA), a non-profit health and development agency serving the Nyanza Province in Western Kenya. This tripled the space of the original clinic, which helped decrease infant mortality in the surrounding areas from 100 to 35 deaths per one thousand births.
Donato’s mission to transform healthcare around the world started much earlier in his career at Caremark, where in the 1980s he championed the development of the first national disease management program for HIV/AIDS. In 1991, he orchestrated the launch of the HIV/AIDS Arthur Ashe workplace education program, and the launch of a national HIV Provider Network focused on comprehensive disease management.
These successes add fuel to Donato’s drive. Today he is pushing more aggressively than ever to leverage the collaborative power of worldwide networks of healthcare professionals and global life sciences companies. Physicians Interactive has registered more than three million healthcare professionals worldwide in its user network and has expanded into mobile healthcare applications designed to help connect tens of millions of consumers around the world with their healthcare clinicians, regardless of their location and activity.
