Calculating the Cost of Care
Michael Ryan’s quiet confidence and demeanor allows his work to speak for itself. The portfolio of innovative solutions he’s developed, his vision, and his creativity have all made an impact at Xcenda and the healthcare industry as a whole. Since joining Xcenda as a lead developer in mobile technologies in 2011, he has helped medical and pharmaceutical clients innovate the way they convey messages to their audience in an increasingly digital field.
For example, understanding the need in the industry to manage healthcare costs and to improve how the value of medical treatments are assessed in the field of oncology, Michael developed a calculator tool for Excel and the iPad that allows electronic input and calculation of product value based on the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) value-based framework. As a result of his vision to move away from manual forms and inputs, the Cancer Care Value Calculator helps users quickly and accurately compute a Net Health Benefit score and determine costs associated with products—and it helps stakeholders make more informed decisions on oncology treatment options.
Michael also pioneered the very first version of iPad-based economic models for Xcenda in 2012, before they became a widely adopted practice. In fact, Michael has developed more than 18 economic models for the iPad. Eschewing a traditional “one-size-fits-all” approach to software, each of these tools has been hand made with unique feature sets that cover the gamut of the health economic modelling space. Having helped establish Xcenda’s reputation as a respected source for iPad-based software, he has turned his attention toward developing new techniques and systems that will cut production timelines by as much as 50%, as well as other features designed to respond to a rapidly changing technology marketplace.
