Katie Van Horn

Associate Director, Consumer Marketing
Takeda Pharmaceuticals

A Smart Marketing Encyclopedia

Katie Van Horn is a force to be reckoned with, in the best of ways. Katie is deeply committed to improving healthcare, demonstrated by her education (MSW, MPH) and her roles in clinical settings as well as working with and then for a pharmaceutical company. Katie entered her healthcare career as a clinical social worker at a pediatric hospital. Her experiences working with patients and their family members, sometimes at their worst moments, laid the foundation for how she approaches her work—by always putting the patient first. Patient-centricity is at the forefront of what she does day in and out.

This year, Katie seamlessly transitioned from the Business Insights & Analytics team to a Patient Marketing role and showcased her strategic thinking by identifying white space opportunities for the brand. Katie was instrumental in working with cross-functional partners and agencies to develop a custom KPI and performance dashboard to optimize the brand’s media buying strategy.

Prior to transitioning to the marketing team Katie worked collaboratively with the Procurement team to develop a network of preferred market research partners and recruitment agencies that met criteria of being a diverse supplier. The goal of this work was to help elevate brand capabilities by ensuring market research represents the voices and experiences of patients, HCPs, and caregivers from diverse backgrounds, underserved medical communities, non-native English speakers, and other groups that may not traditionally raise their hand to participate in market research. Her work paid off. Just last year, she was awarded the One Takeda Corporate Award, which is the highest level of recognition for outstanding contributions towards achieving business priorities while exhibiting Takeda’s values of (PTRB) Patients-Trust-Reputation-Business. Katie inspires her colleagues with her depth of clinical knowledge, the competitive landscape, and a rich clarity of the clinical studies supporting not only Takeda’s brand, but all the brands in the category. She is known fondly as the team’s “encyclopedia.”

Katie is a Swiss army knife, and based on her past and current performance and skills, there is no doubt that she is a leader of the future.
