ELITE 2023 Mentor Lauren Boyer of Underscore Marketing

Lauren Boyer

CEO

Underscore Marketing

Leading the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs

Lauren Boyer began her career at the inception of digital marketing. She was behind SmithKline Beecham’s very first digital media campaign in 1996. She helped create the first website for Medicare Supplement and Replacement Insurance for Independence Blue Cross, she was part of the launch of AdvilPM, and developed a methodology for a $100MM private publisher to create new digital revenue streams incrementally in 2000.

She’s a pioneer by nature, who in 2007, joined Underscore Marketing, a strategic media agency helping life sciences, health, and wellness brands to launch and grow with strategic, data-driven media solutions audiences won’t ignore.

Lauren’s tireless work and innovative thinking has seen her rise to CEO, making the agency not only a recognized Women-owned Business, but also, the agency that Lauren herself says she would want to hire if she were back on the client side again. Her philanthropic and health media industry-centric work has made her a bellwether for the progression of women both in her industry and beyond.

Lauren takes mentorship seriously. In addition to embracing diverse perspectives and backgrounds at Underscore, she volunteers as a board member of Entrepreneurs Organization (EO), where she works with several regional chapters to empower entrepreneurs and support the growth of free enterprise. She has previously volunteered her mentorship acumen for the NYS Small Business Administration and NYNMA, in addition to incubating and nurturing several female-led startups. Lauren actively participates in KPMG’s QuantumShift Fellowship at the University of Michigan.

She was recognized as one of the top 50 female entrepreneurs by Inc. Magazine, and most recently was announced as a winner of MM+M’s coveted Women of Distinction award. Lauren—and Underscore—are members of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA), together striving to achieve greater gender parity in the workplace while helping women drive their careers to the next level through mentorship programs, strategic events, and beyond.

As the working mom of two college students, Lauren continually strives to motivate and encourage new generations to fulfill their potential and values independently. She freely and frankly shares her own experiences to help light the way for the next generation of entrepreneurs and lives by the mantra “win or learn.”
