Vice President, Value, Access & Pricing Strategy

Janssen Pharmaceuticals

An Access Strategy Leader Built to Inspire

How do you energize and motivate a cross-functional team year after year while not only meeting expectations but exceeding them? It requires a level of visionary, forward-looking thinking that defines what it means to be a transformational leader. It requires someone like Sylvia Shubert.

Sylvia joined Janssen in October 2020 and immediately got to work assembling the Value, Access & Pricing Strategy team. Drawing on her experience and team-building acumen, she curated a diverse group of individuals to lead therapeutic area groups with a shared focus on access strategy.

It’s not easy to make big changes in a large organization with established ways of operating, but Sylvia stepped up to the challenge. Upon arrival she strategically assessed what was working well and where change would be embraced. She built trust early by organizing a successful 50-person workshop held over two half-days to dive deep into industry trends and their potential impact on the business—and that was just in her first three months. Building trust as a strategic thinker, Sylvia began making her mark.

She retained the core structure of established, successful frameworks like that of the annual business planning process, and tweaked them to be even more engaging and impactful. Seeing the benefit of having relevant, of-the-moment updates on industry information and news, she invested in reports to keep her team’s finger on the pulse of trends, policy changes, and industry leader discussions, and their potential effect on Janssen. Sylvia does not settle in the present, but plans for the future.

Her positive impact on her colleagues and organization is evident, as demonstrated by the growing and thriving team under her experienced and strategic guidance. It’s clear Sylvia is a passionate and effective leader and will no doubt continue to inspire others to raise their hands to be a part of the transformation.
