An Emerging Mental Health Leader
Emily Rose has honed a powerful set of leadership skills throughout her various roles at Verywell. She started as the company’s Associate Editor in 2012, when the brand was still About.com, then transitioned into leading the brand’s social media strategy during the Verywell launch, before switching back to an editorial role as Editorial Director for Verywell Fit, Family, and Mind. Now she serves as Associate General Manager of Verywell Mind, where she leads the brand’s mission to share trusted and compassionate information for living a happier, more balanced life.
Emily plays an indispensable role in the success of many of Verywell Mind’s initiatives, particularly last year, when mental health was of utmost importance. She helped the brand step up to better meet users’ evolving needs as people were experiencing high levels of uncertainty, anxiety, and depression in response to the world’s events.
For example, Emily helped onboard Verywell Mind Editor-in-Chief Amy Morin, LCSW, and launched editorial initiatives such as “Ask a Therapist,” where Amy empathetically answers questions about all things mental health and psychology. She also oversaw the launch of Verywell Mind’s new social initiatives, including #MentalHealthMonday, where the brand shares actionable tips and advice, and the creation of tools such as “How to Talk About Postpartum Depression,” a version of Verywell’s award-winning Healthy Conversations tool, which helps users navigate difficult conversations.
As part of the leadership team, Emily also helped shape and promote Verywell Mind’s Anti-Racism Pledge—a detailed promise that all who visit Verywell see themselves in the voices and content that’s shared. As part of the pledge, specific goals were set to recruit and amplify BIPOC contributors, work with diversity and sensitivity editors to expand representation, and more. For example, content that accounts for over 50% of Verywell Mind’s traffic was reviewed to ensure it is inclusive in language and content.
Emily’s infectious energy and passion for the brand and its readers continues to drive thoughtful development of content, site optimizations, and more. She is a driving force behind the brand’s rapid growth, which now reaches more than 6.5 million unique visitors every month.
