Innovating the Point of Care
David Guthrie lives and breathes technology. And for the 52-year cystic fibrosis survivor, breathing isn’t something he takes for granted. David was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was 18 months old and received a double-lung transplant just five years ago. He is also a lymphoma survivor. But David sees his own experiences as a window into the unique challenges patients face in the complex healthcare system, and understands the importance of being educated and adhering to treatment plans.
Throughout his 30-year career, David has designed, implemented, and honed solutions that have reshaped entire industries. He is well-known in tech and venture capital circles for co-founding Medcast, a physician news and information service acquired by WebMD in 1997, and for serving as a WebMD/Medcast Chief Technology Officer during the online giant’s infancy. David also spent time as a Partner in the Atlanta-based venture capital firm Fuqua Ventures on early-stage technology and life science investments and as Chief Technology Officer of PGi, the world’s largest dedicated provider of collaboration software and services.
But now, as Chief Product Officer at PatientPoint, David works alongside PatientPoint Founder and CEO Mike Collette and a dedicated team to develop and execute a robust product roadmap that brings exciting new innovation to the industry. In less than 18 months at the company, David has wasted no time pursuing opportunities that showcase point of care’s expansive potential.
For example, David has been hard at work on a first-of-its-kind health risk assessment and intake program complete with turnkey EHR integration. This new product is intended to help providers deliver improved patient care, save time, and also generate higher practice reimbursement. Further, in response to sponsor demand for enhanced transparency and accountability of ad campaign delivery, David has developed a breakthrough solution that will give advertisers the same ad tagging and real-time reporting capabilities that they receive from traditional digital publishing sites.
“David has been a pioneer in not only technology, but also healthcare technology,” says Scott Schemmel, Executive Vice President of Information Technology, PatientPoint. “It is great to see the impact he is making yet again in driving innovation that enhances every doctor-patient engagement.”
