Senior Vice President, Global Specialty & Branded Product Strategy & Access
Making Launching New Products Easier
Joe Cappello knew he was in the right profession when he had a defining experience early in his career as a sales rep. While in an office waiting room, a patient saw his name badge and recognized the brand he worked for. The patient hugged him and was profusely thankful for that therapy and what it did for his life. The patient impact became real in that moment and further instilled a drive to make sure innovative therapies were successful in the marketplace and reached the patients that needed them most.
Now, with 20 years of industry experience under his belt, Joe leads a team of experts responsible for helping manufacturers bring between 30 and 40 novel therapies and specialty products to the market each year. Acting as one unified business, Joe’s team supports manufacturers in seamlessly commercializing new products with fully integrated offerings that address everything from global clinical trial and specialty logistics to patient access and adherence. This comprehensive portfolio of solutions combined with the company’s integrated approach allows pharma manufacturers to stay focused on what they do best—develop life-saving therapies—while having full confidence that their developments will be expertly commercialized and efficiently brought to patients.
Beyond spearheading the launch of many complex therapies, Joe and his team ensure the overall success of a product. They assist manufacturers with their global and domestic logistics by providing a customized product delivery program and world-class storage and distribution to help businesses increase supply chain efficiency and enhance patient care. They also connect manufacturers with consulting services to provide data-driven research and scientific expertise that allows a manufacturer to clearly define the value its product brings to the healthcare market. In the final stages, Joe and his team equip manufacturers with benefit verification and patient assistance resources to maximize patient access and adherence support.
Prior to joining AmerisourceBergen, Joe served in various positions at pharma companies such as Sanofi, Centocor (a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson), and Endo Pharmaceuticals. During his time with these companies, he shepherded successful market launches for some of the most novel and innovative tests and therapies in the industry.
