Jessica McCarthy has more than 25 years of experience in taking high-performing teams to stellar heights. She has been recognized for her successes through multiple awards and was named one of the “Most Influential Women in the Bay Area” by the San Francisco Business Times in 2014 and inducted into the Forever Influential Hall of Fame by the San Francisco Business Times in 2015.
Beginning her career on the consumer agency side, Jessica found her way into healthcare when she joined Blue Shield of California. As Vice President of Marketing, she led a 125-person team with a $54M budget, increasing engagement scores by 25% in two years and growing the individual membership by 167%. Prior to that, as Director of eBusiness, she secured $20 million in funding to rebuild the customer website and built the company’s first mobile “find a doctor” application.
In her current position at Singulex—beginning with no established marketing department, no install base, and no market awareness to speak of—Jessica successfully orchestrated a European launch of a first-of-its-kind immunodiagnostics instrument from a largely unknown company through a combination of educational events, KOL advocacy, and a daring creative campaign.
The implications of the launch of the Singulex Clarity system, a fully automated, in vitro diagnostics platform powered by Single Molecule Counting technology, were huge. The instrument launched with an assay used to rule out cardiac ischemia without additional stress testing—significantly decreasing healthcare costs by giving cardiologists definitive answers in mere hours versus weeks.
But, to effectively get the word out on a shoestring budget, Jessica needed the support of KOLs in cardiology as well as laboratorians. Anchored by a speakers’ bureau made up of renowned physicians and laboratorians, Jessica launched the Singulex Clarity system and assay by highlighting strong data and KOL support at an exclusive BioRemarkable Symposium in London in the fall of 2017. Through unique creative branding combined with the backing of industry giants, Singulex and its Clarity system earned a high degree of credibility and endorsement that is generally the result of years of traditional marketing efforts.
