BrightGuard Installs Free Sunscreen Dispensers Throughout Los Angeles Beach Cities

First-of-its-Kind Automated Sunscreen Dispenser Company Collaborates with UCLA Health and IMPACT Melanoma to Provide Free, High-Quality Sunscreen to Help Reduce LA’s Risk of Skin Cancer

LOS ANGELES and NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., July 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — With summer upon us and Los Angelinos and vacationers alike flocking to beach city locations, BrightGuard—the first automated sunscreen dispenser company offering free, high-quality SPF 30 sunscreen everywhere people work, play, live and learn—is pleased to announce that through collaboration with UCLA Health and nonprofit sponsor and donor IMPACT Melanoma, it has installed 50 sunscreen dispensers on Santa Monica and Malibu beaches—including the Santa Monica Pier. BrightGuard will continue its mission of skin cancer prevention with plans for installations throughout Los Angeles County including Malibu Bluffs Park, Ocean View Park, Zuma Beach Lifeguard Headquarters and Memorial Park.

After a close friend was diagnosed with melanoma at a young age, BrightGuard’s two co-founders were inspired to create the unique touch-free public sunscreen dispenser company. They are now on a mission to create healthier communities by reducing the risks of sun exposure while enabling children and adults alike to safely enjoy the outdoors all year round. Its dispensers are currently found in various schools, parks, sports arenas and other public places across the country.

“We believe that our partnership with UCLA Health and IMPACT Melanoma will help increase our ability to scale up even more quickly to create and enhance awareness of the importance of sun safety,” said Alex Beck, co-founder of BrightGuard, who spearheaded the collaboration. “Each of the partners involved in this initiative supports a shared mission of ensuring people everywhere can enjoy their time outdoors while protecting their skin from the harmful rays of the sun. We are proud of the great success of this project and look forward to many others like it as we continue to expand and grow.”

The initiative was co-sponsored by IMPACT Melanoma—a national nonprofit organization dedicated to education, prevention and taking action in the fight against skin cancer. Committed to skin cancer prevention and early detection, IMPACT Melanoma provides a variety of award-winning programs which aim to raise awareness and educate the public about skin cancer, as well as support services for those struggling with the disease. Its offerings include support groups, educational programs and patient advocacy. For more information about IMPACT Melanoma, visit http://www.impactmelanoma.org.

Co-sponsor, UCLA Health, has also been an integral part of the initiative. For more than 60 years, UCLA Health has provided the best in healthcare and the latest in medical technology to the people of Los Angeles. Its mission is to provide state-of-the-art patient care, to train top medical professionals and to support pioneering research and discovery. UCLA Health includes four hospitals on two campuses—Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center; UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica; UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital; and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA—and more than 175 primary and specialty care offices throughout Southern California. It also includes the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. For more information about UCLA Health, visit https://www.uclahealth.org.

In addition to producing the hardware and leading the collaboration, the BrightGuard team will work with Santa Monica and Malibu city leadership to maintain the dispensers – including regular and frequent visits to ensure the dispensers are filled with plenty of high-quality sunscreen. The automatic sunscreen dispensers and sun safety stations will be up and running at the designated areas through October 31.
