Inaugural Green Pharma Summit
On July 20 and 21 at the Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia, PA, the first Green Pharma Summit was attended by a group of energetic and action-oriented pharma professionals looking to make changes in the industry’s commitment to sustainability. Program highlights included several case studies by pharma, the EPA, and academia as well as lively roundtable discussions, one on “Green Chemistry Research & Development” led by Pfizer’s Peter Dunn, PhD, and another on “Green & Lean Manufacturing” led by Allergan’s Michael Whaley, PE. Other pharma participants at the summit included Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline, and Schering-Plough. Governmental organizations represented included the EPA Energy Star Program, the State of Maine’s Department of Health & Human Services, and Sweden’s Stockholm County Council. The event served as a springboard for implementing environmental initiatives—with cross-industry professionals working together to come up with actionable solutions.
The event’s roundtables, networking breaks, and panels allowed for lively discussions on pharma’s opportunities, challenges, and actions going forward.
