Mylan announced that Didier Barret, President of Mylan Europe, Middle East and Africa, was elected President of the European Generic Medicines Association (EGA) for a two-year term. The EGA is the official representative body of the European generic and biosimilar pharmaceutical industry, and Mylan is a generic and specialty pharmaceutical company based in Pittsburgh, PA.
Dr. Bruce L.A. Carter has joined Immune Design, a vaccine developer, as Executive Chairman and Director. Previously, he was CEO of ZymoGenetics, also based in Seattle, which he helped to found. Carter has served as both Corporate Executive VP and Chief Scientific Officer at Novo Nordisk.
Sarnova, a distributor of healthcare products in the emergency medical services and respiratory markets, appointed four new executives to its senior management team: Tom David, EVP of sales; Donna Hill, executive EVP and general counsel; Steve Lacke, EVP of marketing; and Greg Robitaille, EVP of corporate development. Previously, David was VP of sales at IPA, North America. Hill and Lacke join Sarnova from Cardinal Health. Robitaille comes from Water Street Healthcare Partners,
a leading private equity firm focused exclusively on healthcare.
Steve DeMorro has been promoted to VP of Human Resources, Recruitment, and Healthcare Education at Publicis Strategic Solutions Group (PSSG). In his new role, DeMorro is responsible for human resources, as well as internal, direct-to-company, and contract recruitment. In addition, he oversees PSSG’s healthcare education companies: Publicis Clinical Health Partners, Science Oriented Solutions, and Total Learning Concepts. DeMorro has more than 22 years of experience in the life sciences industry.
Maryann Kuzel has joined Harrison and Star in the newly created position of SVP, Managing Director of CRM. Before joining the New York City agency that focuses on targeting specialists, Kuzel was President and chief strategist for Omnicom’s Star Healthcare.
Giant Creative/Strategy, a healthcare communications agency, has promoted Adam Gelling to SVP, Management Supervisor. Gelling joined the San Francisco agency in 2006 and currently leads a key account group as well as serving on the executive management team.
Scott Fanelli and Susan Chouhdry were both hired by Goble & Associates, a Chicago healthcare communications agency. Fanelli was named Group Account Director. He spent the past several years at Corbett Accel Healthcare Group as a Group Account Supervisor. Chouhdry was hired as Account Director. She comes to Goble from the Williams-Labadie agency in Chicago.
Atherotech, a cardiodiagnostic company, named Tom Derr Manager of Marketing and Analytics. Derr previously directed all promotions,
customer communications, and marketing analysis at Jones Stephens.
Publicis Medical Education Group announced the appointment of J.R. Meloro as EVP, Managing Director, for Medicus International New York, which became part of PMEG last year. For the past five years, Meloro was VP, Director of Operations, for Draftfcb Healthcare’s ProHealth division in New York, where he oversaw all functional operations of the medical education group and content development for all accounts.
Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness has named Ned Russell EVP, Managing Director. Russell joined SSW last year as EVP, Director of Client Service. Previously he had been VP, Brand Marketing, for the Las Vegas-based Sands and before that held leadership positions on high-profile accounts at Arnold Worldwide NY, Wolf Group, DDB, and Lintas Worldwide.
The new position of EVP, Commercial Affairs, at Microchip Biotechnologies, has been assumed by Howard Goldstein, a biotech lab systems executive with more than 30 years of experience managing life science product organizations. Goldstein will direct marketing, business development, sales, and customer service operations as the company makes the transition from product development to full commercial operations. Previously, Goldstein served as CEO and then Chief Commercial Officer of Arcxis Biotechnologies.
SK&A Information Services, a provider of healthcare information solutions and research, promoted Jack Schember to VP of Marketing. Prior to joining SK&A as a director, he was a marketing manager at the software division of Melissa Data.
AbelsonTaylor, an independent Chicago ad agency, has promoted Libby Taranta to senior account executive in the DTC Group and Erin Abbott to account executive. Taranta previously handled DTC and DTP accounts in the areas of oncology and psoriasis. Abbott will work on products for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and epilepsy.
Altum, a CommonHealth ad and promotion company, named Pegi Wieczorek EVP, director of client services. Wieczorek will be responsible for Altum’s oncology client services. Previously, she owned Benefacta, a marketing and communications consulting firm based in San Francisco.
